PAST EVENTS

Former members of the University of Liberia Chorus have assembled on an ad hoc basis in the past. A group of members assembled in 2000 in New Jersey to sing at a memorial service for our late director, Mrs. Agnes Nebo von Ballmoos, Associate Professor of Music at the University of Liberia. She served the University of Liberia from 1961 until 1990, when due to the civil war she had to leave Liberia and settle in London.

On Sunday, February 22, 2009 twelve former members of the UL Chorus sang at Peoples' Institutional A.M.E. Church located at 628 Madison Street in Brooklyn, NY for their annual Pan African Day Celebration. The chorus was invited by the President of the church's Pan African Ministry, and fellow chorister Amy Jones-Collins who was inspired that now was the time to call on its members to reunite. The program's theme was "The Dawn of a New Era", which was in honor of the First African-American President of the United States, President Barack Obama. The chorus, under the direction of James Weeks Jr. performed during the morning worship service, and also during the international buffet reception held after the service.  This occasion , the reuniting of these twelve members, served as the impetus to organize the alumni of the UL Chorus more formally and propel the group towards a new era.

On May 27, 2009 the alumni chorus participated during the homegoing services of one of its members, Mrs. Edith Jemima Cooper Hodge ( EJ ) at Glenmont United Methodist Church in Silver Spring , Maryland. The chorus was directed by Mr. Elmer Vamplah Diggs.

The alumni chorus ministered during the morning worship service at Grace United Methodist Church in Staten Island, NY on Sunday, June 28. The chorus was directed by Mr. J. Milton Weeks Jr.

On July 3, 2009 the alumni chorus participated during the homegoing services of Mrs. Olivia Amiatta Kamara Cooper ( EJ's mother ) at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Silver Spring, MD. The chorus was directed by Mr. J. Milton Weeks Jr.

The chorus worshipped at Bethel World Outreach Church, City of Hope on Sunday, July 19, 2009. The chorus ministered at the 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. services under the direction of Mr. J. Milton Weeks Jr.
